It is important to understand the difference between addiction and problem behaviour. A problem behaviour is a repeated action that may be creating conflict or unwanted consequences. Addiction involves a stronger pattern of losing control, repeated unsuccessful attempts to stop, despite harm to relationships, work, or finances. Withdrawal and tolerance usually occur, but they are not required for every addiction pattern.
